Nespresso Vertuo Next - Fix Orange Blinking Light

The Nespresso Vertuo Next can be a great coffee machine to brew your favorite coffee with the addition of the crema top and great taste. When this machine confronts an error though you will see an orange blinking light on the top of the machine. These are the ways to fix this error and are based on what your coffee maker needs performed.

   1. Factory Reset: Sometimes your Nespresso machine needs to be reset to the factory settings, you can actually change configurations through the Nespresso app which may cause problems for the functionality of the machine down the road. To do this you will tap the brew button on the top 5 times. Make sure the machine is plugged in and button on top is white. Press quickly 5 times, then it will flash orange a few times, then wait until it turns white again. Then close the machine and lock it. It should now be reset to factory settings, and you may attempt to reattempt to use the machine to brew. It is also helpful here to unplug the machine for 15 seconds before use I have found to work as well.

   2. Cleaning Method: The Vertuo Next may need to be cleaned and flashing the error orange light. You will need to fill up the water reservoir in the back, then place a large collection container in the front of the machine, enough to hold the water which will be expelled from the reservoir, then press the top brew button three times in a row quickly, the light will then flash orange and enter cleaning mode to empty the reservoir tank. Before you do this it is also helpful to check the spinning puncture splines at the inside top of the machine, make sure they move freely and are not stuck.

   3. Descale Method: Your Nespresso machine may be flashing this error light to let you know that your machine needs a descale. To perform a descale you will need to purchase Nespresso Descale solution. This is a pink colored liquid. Which you will pour into the reservoir tank with it being 3/4 of the way full of water. Then there is a semi confusing list of steps to perform this which I am listing below:

      1. Unlock the machine then hold the top closed

      2. Hold down the brew button for 7 seconds

      3. Lock the lid

      4. Unlock lid

      5. Hold brew button for another 7 seconds

      6. Lock it again then press the brew button

         At this point the machine will begin to run through all of the descale fluid in the tank and descale the machine, afterwards you will want to wash out the water tank before using the machine. using one of these three methods should help your machine stop flashing the orange light of death (in reference of the blue screen of death for PCs) and help you get your morning or afternoon cup of coffee.
