If you ever notice that the water coming from your fridge water dispenser tastes "off" or different it may be time to clean your fridge water dispenser outlet. Before you even notice a taste you may even notice that the stream of water is jetting off to one side. This is a sign that you should check your fridge water dispenser.

The water dispenser itself is generally not going to be crooked or problematic enough to spray at a strange angle. Rather what can happen is that minerals and bacteria can build up near the end and inside of the end of your refrigerator water dispenser and cause an obstruction which may block the stream of water.

I have found that the best way to clean this gunk is to first grab some Q-Tip's and bleach. You should dip one end of the Q-Tip into the bleach cleaner. What I generally do is pour a small amount into the lid of the bleach container then use that. It should be more than enough for this small project.

Once you have the end of the Q tip damp with bleach you can clean any black buildup around the end of the water dispenser off first then work your way into the dispenser with a fresh Q-Tip damp with bleach.

You may need a few Q tips for this is there is a large amount of buildup here. After performing this you should run enough water equaling a glass of water through the dispenser to dislodge any gunk you may have loosened and get rid of bleach from your cleaning efforts.

By checking your water dispenser each month, you can keep any bacteria or sludge at bay. Also make sure to change your fridge water filter as recommended. It is also recommended to not have water spraying frequently all over the dispenser (from water bottles etc.) as that can promote bacterial growth as well.
